Congratulations to the winners of our Poetry Live poetry competition.  I'm sorry that we are few days late announcing this winning list but several entrants couldn't actually take up their places so we've had to go back into the short list and make a few additional selections.

The standard of entries has been very high, according to the judges Gillian Clarke and Imtiaz Dharker, so they had a tough job choosing the sixteen.

If you are not not one of the sixteen, then all I can do is offer my commiserations.  What I do know is that every poet starts off like this, sending poems off to competitions and to poetry magazines.  You've taken this first step by entering this competition and I want to encourage you to carry on doing this.  Keep writing poems, keep reading poems (no one can become a good poetry writer without being an avid reader of poetry) and keep sending them everywhere you can.

Very best wishes.

Simon Powell
